Frequently asked questions

The following should help to answer most questions you have. If you don't find what you need here, email the support team at jct.support@thomsonreuters.com.

Q
How do I know which contract I need?
A
If you are planning to convert a loft or build an extension to your house or similar work and you have not appointed a consultant (i.e. an architect or a chartered surveyor) to supervise the works, you should use the Building Contract for a Home Owner/Occupier who has not appointed a consultant to oversee the work. If you have appointed a Consultant, you should use the Building Contract and Consultancy Agreement for a Home Owner/Occupier.
Q
Where can the contracts be used?
A
The contracts are suitable for use in England and Wales. A version suitable for use in Scotland is published by the Scottish Building Contract Committee Limited (SBCC).
Q
Will my builder be happy to use this contract?
A
Yes, JCT Contracts are well known throughout the construction industry for their unbiased contracts and have a reputation that your contractor will recognise and trust.
